TCWO: Total Cost of Workflow Ownership — Cromus
Total Cost of Workflow Ownership (TCWO) is Step 3 in Cromus's 4-step measurement framework. TCWO is Cromus's adaptation of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) specifically for AI workflows — measuring the true fully-loaded cost of every AI-assisted workflow, per outcome, over time.
The TCWO formula: TCWO = (Baseline Cost + Croms Waste Cost + Integration Overhead + Maintenance Cost) / Outcomes Produced. This gives you a per-outcome cost metric that can be tracked, compared, and optimized over time.
TCWO components include: Baseline Cost (from Step 1 — the fully-loaded per-execution cost), Croms Waste Cost (from Step 2 — the dollar value of preventable waste), Integration Overhead (the cost of connecting the workflow to other systems), Maintenance Cost (ongoing prompt tuning, model updates, governance compliance), and Outcomes Produced (the number of successful workflow completions).
TCWO differs from simple API cost tracking because it includes all hidden costs, measures per outcome (not per call), tracks over time (showing trends), and accounts for waste that could be eliminated.
