WIaaS: Workflow Intelligence as a Service — Cromus
Workflow Intelligence as a Service (WIaaS) is a new infrastructure category defined by Cromus. WIaaS is the layer that sits between workflow design and workflow execution — governing, optimizing, and continuously improving AI workflows before they consume compute resources.
WIaaS is distinct from existing categories: Workflow Orchestration (LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen) handles execution — running workflows at runtime. Workflow Observability (LangSmith, Helicone, Langfuse) handles monitoring — tracking what happened after execution. WIaaS handles intelligence — analyzing and optimizing before execution.
The WIaaS stack includes: SOP Compilation (converting natural-language processes into structured SKILL.md specs), Cost Simulation (modeling per-run and monthly costs across models), Waste Measurement (quantifying Croms across cost, latency, failure, and structure), Optimization (generating actionable recommendations with estimated savings), Governance (ETHOS.md behavioral constraints and compliance), and Continuous Learning (Reality Check Loop comparing predictions to actuals).
