Workflow Intelligence Manifesto — Cromus
The Cromus manifesto establishes the founding philosophy: Intelligence before execution. Most organizations deploy AI workflows and discover costs, failures, and inefficiencies after the fact. Cromus inverts this paradigm by providing a pre-execution intelligence layer.
The manifesto argues that AI workflows need the same rigor applied to traditional software — cost modeling, governance, optimization, and continuous measurement — but adapted for the unique challenges of LLM-powered systems: non-deterministic outputs, per-token pricing, model deprecation, prompt sensitivity, and cascading failure chains.
Cromus introduces the concept of Workflow Intelligence as a Service (WIaaS) as a new infrastructure category, distinct from workflow orchestration (LangGraph, CrewAI) and observability (LangSmith, Helicone). WIaaS operates before execution, not during or after.
The manifesto concludes with "Beyond the Platform" — arguing that Cromus is a founding argument for pricing transparency, Total Cost of Workflow Ownership visibility, and practitioner ownership of workflow intelligence. SKILL.md, ETHOS.md, and MEMORY.md are open specs because the foundation must be open. The community is the compounding advantage.
